India were dealt a reality check in the second ODI against England as the visitors romped to victory riding on stunning knocks from Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes. Earlier, for India, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant had taken India to a good score of 336, but ultimately it didn’t prove to be enough.

Chasing a mammoth total of 337, England were off to a solid start as Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy made the most of their form. They had shared a 135-run stand in the first ODI and followed it up with another century-plus stand in the ongoing game.

None of the Indian bowlers looked like dismissing the English openers. It was Rohit Sharma who did the magic in the field. Bairstow nudged the ball into the short midwicket and called Roy for the single, who hesitated, but Rohit Sharma’s brilliant fielding effort and his accurate throw into Rishabh Pant’s gloves caught Roy short of the pitch. England lost the first wicket giving India hope.

Roy and Bairstow put together a opening partnership of 110 runs. After losing Roy, England formed another crucial partnership of 175 runs for the second wicket between Bairstow and Ben Stokes. Stokes played a blistering knock of 99 runs.
