India vs England 2021: Joe Root-the bowler scalps Team India’s wickets in succession, gets his maiden Test fifer
No doubt England skipper Joe Root marked his presence on the field during Day 2 of the ongoing pink-ball day-night Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium where he clinched his maiden Test fifer. Surprisingly, this time with the ball when Joe Root shone brightly during the play.
With the ball Joe Root scalped Team India’s wickets in succession, starting with the deceptive bowling to baffle Rishabh Pant. He then wreaked havoc with his bowling and was instrumental in bundling Team India at 145 runs.
Root’s personal best- 5 wickets for 8 runs
Though Joe Root didn’t ball at the venue on the first day, still he jolted half the Indian team during the first session of day 2. He gave such a riveting performance with the ball that at one point he toppled three Indian wickets without leaking any runs.
He set three Indian left-handers- Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel to the pavilion. Besides, his dominance on the right-handers was no less as Root dismissed Ravi Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah.
While Ashwin and Axar were caught playing the aerial shots, Pant got a slight edge and thus got dismissed. Sundar was bowled while the tail-ender Bumrah fell prey to the leg-before-wicket on Joe Root’s bowling.
Root, however, slumped with the bat during the first innings at the opening day of the Test as he returned returned scoring just 17 runs from his willow.
