It was a Test match turned T20 and that too on just Day 2 of the pink-ball day-night Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Day had so much for the spectators which began with India continuing their first innings on the overnight of 99 at the loss of three wickets, and even produced the results minutes after the commencement of the third session.

While the first session saw the visitors dominance over Team India as they bundled the hosts for just 145 runs, the second session witnessed the early dismissal of England at just 81 runs from the fingers of Indian spinners.

All this boiled down to India’s second innings ahead of the day’s last session with 49 runs on the board to be chased. Indian openers made no mistake and attracted the win as Rohit Sharma, in his aggressiveness smashed runs with the willow.

As Team India won by 10 wickets, we look at the talking points from the day’s play.

Joe Root- the bowler

Joe Root

England skipper, who is an occasional off-spinner, jolted Team India as soon he took the bowl on Day 2. He shook the entire batting line-up starting the dismissal streak from Rishabh Pant. Continuing his deceptive bowling, he uprooted Ravi Ashwin, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah’s wickets and troubled Team India. He gathered his career-best bowling figures as he took five wickets for just eight runs. Besides, he bowled three maiden overs.

Axar Patel’s fifer

Axar Patel

In addition to the six scalps on Day 1 of the play, Axar Patel’s sublime form continued on Day 2 as well. He took five wickets and tricked four prime batsmen- Zak Crawley, Dominic Sibley, Jonny Bairstow, and Joe Root.

Ravi Ashwin’s 400 wickets

Ravi Ashwin

India’s star allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin played a supporting role to the rookie Axar Patel. Besides, banking on four England wickets, Ashwin achieved a mega milestone as he entered the 400 wicket-club.
