India vs England 2021: ‘It was a tough Test match to watch,’ says Alastair Cook on the just-concluded pink-ball Test
Alastair Cook
The third Test between India and England was indeed a different one. Not because it was a pink-ball day-night Test, but because of the match concluding on the second day of the game.
Talking of the same, former England player Alastair Cook took a dig at the match and asserted that it was a ‘tough Test to watch.’ He reckoned that Team India deserved the win for having more experience on the continental pitches.
Cook hailed Team India’s win by ten wickets
With Indian winning the third Test between the two sides and standing 2-1, Team India keep them in the race for the World Test Championship while England stands out of the contention.
“It doesn’t look great when India win by 10 wickets because it was a lot closer than that actually.
“India deserved the win. Obviously they are better in those conditions, but it was a tough Test match to watch. The pitch had such a big influence on that.
“That was so hard playing against spin today. India lost seven for 40 when the pressure was on, England were all out for 80. That is incredibly hard to bat against.
Of the 30 dismissals that took in the match, 21 were known to be the wickets from straight deliveries.
“I was sitting here thinking how would I have played against certain balls, what game plan. I can’t work out a low-risk strategy that would have been successful – unless you have a lot of luck.
“I don’t like that on day two. On day four I’d have no problem. People can say that’s sour grapes.
“The better side won, and that’s fair play to India, but there’s something that doesn’t quite sit right,” Cook said on Channel 4.
The last Test in Ahmedabad at the same venue- Narendra Modi Stadium, will be the decider match of whether the Test series concludes in tie with Team England’s win or will India rise again at the occasion to win the series 3-1.
