India vs England: “You want someone like Ishan Kishan at the top to put pressure on bowlers,’ says Dinesh Karthik

Flamboyant Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan made a terrific international debut with a half-century in his maiden T20I game. The 22-year old smashed 56 off just 32 deliveries to become the second Indian batsman to score a fifty on debut.

Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman and Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik also hailed the youngster after his performance against England. Karthik said that the ‘Men in Blue’ need a top-order batsman like Kishan to put pressure on the opposition.

Speaking to Sky Sports alongside England speedster Stuart Broad, Karthik said: “His ability to trust himself to hit those big six irrespective of the ball being bowled is what sets him apart and that’s what a power player is. You want somebody like that at the top of the order who can put pressure on the bowlers. He put pressure from ball one on Jofra.”

The India wicketkeeper-batsman also leapt praises for India’s bowlers at the death. “[Impressed by] just how clever they were towards the back end of the innings. Just bowling cutters. The fastest bowler on display was Washington. The off-spinner seemed to bowl a lot faster balls and the fast bowlers seemed to bowl a lot of off cutters. So, they were very clever about it, they had good game plans and the wicket helped them in abundance,” Karthik explained.

The 35-year old also shed light on the importance of toss. He said that it definitely plays a critical factor and has a huge impact on the match result.
