The India vs. Pakistan final at the Asia Cup is currently the most talked about topic in the cricketing world. With both teams finally after a wait of 41 years being able to go head-to-head against each other in an Asia Cup final, the atmosphere is tense.
However, the lead up to this has been nothing short of controversial. One would fail to believe that this clash at one point was almost called off with the boycott calls that surrounded it before the tournament began.
Indian fans were very vocal in expressing their disliking towards a match against Pakistan and stated that they still hadn’t recovered from the unfortunate terror attack in Pahalgam. There were innumerable boycott calls around the country before the BCCI finally stepped in to clarify matters.
The board made it clear that India would have to play every opposition in multinational tournaments as the interest of many other teams lies in the competition. However, India will avoid playing bilateral cricket against Pakistan until the relations get better in future.
Now with both teams in the final, the patience of all boycott callers has been tested to the maximum, so much so that the PVR cinemas in the country have decided to screen the final and make it a public event. This big update has not sat down well with the limited number of fans left, who still are willing to boycott the mega showdown.

The recent developments of the India vs. Pakistan final screening have not been accepted by some patriotic fans and they have shown their displeasure on the X social media platform mocking the Indian cricket board.

How have India and Pakistan fared against each other in multinational tournaments?
India and Pakistan have had a very rich history of contests. However, the spice increases multifold when these two teams make it to the final against each other and fans simply can’t have enough of a contest like that. The first time the two sides met each other in a final was back in 1985 at the Benson and Hedges World Championship.
India comfortably won that final by 8 wickets and looked invincible in that tournament. Pakistan however bounced back the very next year to sneak out a one wicket win over India in the final of the 1986 Austral-Asia Cup.

They followed that with another win over India in the finals of the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup and this time it was a comfortable 39 run win. India did find its footing a decade later when both teams met each other in the finals of the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. India was most certain to lose that match until a last over miracle from Joginder Sharma who dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq leaving Pakistan stranded by 5 runs.
Ten years down the line, both teams once again clashed in a final and this time it was the 2017 Champions Trophy. India was termed favorites in all the build ups of that match, but they had to face a fiery Mohammad Amir who silenced Indian fans by removing the famous trio of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli within the first powerplay. India received a thrashing that day losing the final by 180 runs.

Pakistan leads India 3-2 in such multinational tournament finals, and the Asia Cup would be their sixth meeting in such a final. The fans will be hoping to see a cracker of a contest which is evident when these two nations stand in front of each other.
