The Indian team will be seen in whites once again after a gap of a couple of months as Test cricket returns to the country. India was part of a grueling Test series against England in the summer, post-IPL.

A young Indian team under the leadership of Shubman Gill fought neck and neck and drew the series 2-2 in fine fashion. It was a commendable effort considering the fact that the big names of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin all not featuring due to their recently announced retirements.

Post the England series, a few of the Indian players got into their colored kits as they are currently representing India at the 2025 T20 Asia Cup. Many others who were with the team in England got a break from the sport and a few were part of the Duleep Trophy that also concluded recently.

India vs West Indies Test series: Schedule

The West Indies are touring India for the first time since 2018. The last time they toured India, the team lost 2-0 to the hosts and both games ended up being one-sided contests. This time around they would look to change that.

The first test is scheduled to begin on the 2nd of October and will end on the 6th of October. Post that the teams will have a 4-day break as the second Test is scheduled to begin on the 10th of the same month and scheduled to end on the 14th.

India vs. West Indies Test series: Venues

The two venues selected for this two match tour are Ahmedabad and New Delhi. The first Test match from the 2nd of October will be played at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. It is an iconic piece of scheduling as the 2nd of October also marks a national holiday in the country for the celebrations of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ which is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, one of India’s iconic figures who also coincidentally hails from Ahemdabad where the matches will be held.

The second test from the 10th of October will be held at the Arun Jaitley stadium in the capital city of New Delhi. Both venues are expected to offer some spin as the match progresses and that probably is also a tactical decision to outfox the West Indies batters.

The home Test series against the West Indies is an important one for the Indian team. With their sheer dominance in white ball cricket over the last one and half years, their form in red ball cricket hasn’t quite been the same.

The team hasn’t won a single Test series since they beat Bangladesh at home in August 2024. Since then, they have lost an embarrassing home Test series to New Zealand with a score line of 3-0. They further lost to Australia 3-1 when the team had travelled Down Under.

Post that they had a tough draw against England which the team had to scrape out with some tooth and nail fighting. This Test series provides the team with another opportunity to reestablish their dominance at home when it comes to Test cricket.
