Shubman Gill continued his dream run in England off the pitch, as his signed Test jersey became the most expensive item at an auction following the conclusion of the India-England series. Gill’s signed India jersey, with the number 77 on its back, was sold for £4,600.
Shubman Gill had a memorable debut as India’s new Test captain in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The five-match red-ball series, which also marked the start of the 2025-27 WTC cycle, ended in a 2-2 draw and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most hard-fought series in Test cricket history. The Men in Blue came from behind twice to secure victories at The Oval and Edgbaston.
Gill silenced critics not only with his impeccable leadership but also with his batting skills. The 25-year-old, who had only played 32 Test matches prior to the England tour, finished as the highest run-getter and also won the Player of the Series award. In his five appearances across ten innings during the England tour, Gill scored a mind-blowing 754 runs at an average of 75.40, hitting four centuries.
He started the series with a bang, scoring a century in the opening Test match, although it was in a losing cause at Headingley. However, Gill led India’s stunning comeback in the second Test at Edgbaston by scoring 269 and 161 across both innings, helping his side claim a record-breaking 336-run victory. He concluded his fine run with another hundred in the fourth Test at Manchester, which ended in a draw.
His impact on the pitch during the Test tour of England was remarkable, and it continued even after the team had returned home. Gill’s signed Team India jersey, the one he wore on the second day of the third Test at Lord’s, fetched the highest price among all the auctioned jerseys. Shubman’s unwashed number 77 shirt was sold for a remarkable £4,600 (INR 5.41 lakhs) at a charity auction, fetching the highest price among other Indian or English players’ jerseys.
The next highest prices were for the signed jerseys of Indian stars Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, both of which were auctioned for £4,200 (INR 4.84 lakhs), followed by KL Rahul’s jersey at £4,000 (INR 4.7 lakhs). Among the England players, top run-getter Joe Root, had his signed jersey sold for £3,800 (INR 4.47 lakhs), followed by captain Ben Stokes’ jersey at £3,400 (INR 4 lakhs).
The proceeds of the auction went to the Ruth Strauss Foundation, an organization that works with cancer patients in memory of former England captain Andrew Strauss‘s deceased wife, Ruth, who passed away from cancer. In addition to the signed jerseys, several other pieces of memorabilia were auctioned off, including signed caps, portraits, bats, and balls.
Shubman Gill to Lead North Zone in Duleep Trophy After Returning from India-England Tour
Indian red-ball captain Shubman Gill, having recently returned to the country following a grueling five-match Test tour to England, is now preparing for his next captaincy assignment. The 25-year-old is all set to lead the North Zone team in the upcoming 2025-26 Duleep Trophy this month.

Gill will be leading an all-star North Zone squad in the Duleep Trophy, which begins on August 28. Aside from Gill, pacers Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj, and Harshit Rana are other players in the North Zone squad who were also part of the recently concluded India-England Test series. They will kick off their campaign against the Ishan Kishan-led East Zone in Bengaluru in the first quarter-final.
However, if Shubman Gill is called up to play for India in the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE, he will be replaced by Shubham Rohilla. Similarly, Arshdeep Singh would be replaced by Gurnoor Brar and Harshit Rana by Anuj Thakral if they are also selected for the Asia Cup squad.
