Indian Super League runs into a roadblock as threats of boycott are raised
There have been threats from the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee on the boycott of the ISL. The ISL is being held in Goa this season as the other states are suffering from the pandemic still. Three stadiums will host the league as teams are divided according to their standings last year.
Allegations of outsourcing
There have been allegations raised that the work needed to host the league is being outsourced instead of being allotted to locals. The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has threatened to disrupt the preparations of the league until the work is allotted to the locals. They said that the Goa Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar had promised that the locals will benefit from the league being hosted here. He wanted that promise to be fulfilled as this is a pandemic era and local vendors will be helped.
From the team buses, to the power generators to the computer suppliers have all been outsourced from other states. None of these have been allotted to the locals and the vendors feel cheated. According to the GPCC, even the main vendor is not a local. Therefore they wanted all sub-contracts to be allotted to locals. Unless their needs were addressed, the GPCC promised to boycott the preparations of the league. This will obviously cause major losses for all stakeholders of the league.
