Former Pakistan cricketer, Shoaib Akhtar is hailed as one of the fastest bowlers the game has ever seen. He was a nightmare for any batsmen with his raw pace and lethal bouncers.

In his international career which was marred with controversies, Akhtar injured a lot of batsmen with his nasty bouncers. Running at 100 miles per hour, no tailender wanted to face Aktar, especially during his prime.

Recently, during a show, hosted by a Pakistan presenter Sawera Pasha, Akhtar reminisced his old days when he made batsmen’s life tough with his fierce bowling.

During the show, Akhtar said that the batsmen feared batting against him. On being asked the name of a batsman who would tell him to get out but not hit him, he took the name of Muttiah Muralitharan and Indian tailenders.

There were many who told me not to hit them. Muralitharan was one. Many Indian tailenders would tell me ‘don’t hit us, we have families’. Muralitharan would ask me to bowl slow, and he would get out,” said Akhtar.

He then went on to narrate an incident when one of his bouncers hit the South African batsman Gary Kirsten’s eye.

I had told Gary not to attempt the pull against me. I kept telling him don’t try it against the world’s fastest bowler. But he didn’t listen and was hit really hard. Whenever he meets me he points towards his eye,” he said.

Shoaib Akhtar played 46 Test and 163 One-Day Internationals in his illustrious career. He claimed 178 in Tests, besides taking 247 wickets in the shorter format. Akhtar took 16 five-fors in his international career.
