The 2025 Indian Wells marks the first tournament of the Sunshine Double. It’s the 51st and 36th edition of Men’s and Women’s events respectively.
The matches will be held on the outdoor hard courts of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Qualifying rounds will be wrapped up on March 4 and the main draw events will commence on the following day.
The tournament is the first of the nine ATP Masters 1000 but in WTA, it’s the third tournament of the same category following the Qatar Open and the Dubai Open. This season, the surface has been changed from Plexipave to Laykold.
Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are the defending champions in their respective events. For the first time since 2021, Swiatek has arrived in the States without winning a title in a season.
The five-time Grand Slam champion clinched the trophy in 2022 and 2024, while the Spaniard is a two-time defending champion and will aim for a three-peat to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz could schedule a rematch of this year’s Australian Open quarterfinals if both he and Djokovic reach the quarterfinals.
