The Indian women hockey team created history in their maiden quarterfinals, as they beat Australia 1=0 to storm into the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics in what was an exceptional performance by the team. The Indian team has now racked up three wins, as they go into the semifinals of the Games, scripting something that has never been done before.

It was a slow start to the first quarter, with no teams making any advance. The second quarter saw Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur make the only goal of the tournament, that gave India the advantage. The Indian team held out after that, and held the Aussie women off their turf.

India’s goalkeeper Savita Punia was the wall for the Indian women hockey team and successfully defended several penalty corners against the world no 2 and hot favourites, the Australians. It was a historic victory for India, as the team celebrated a historic win, of pure grit, hard work and belief, and the world celebrated along with them.

The victory for India was a historic one, as the women celebrated on the field along with their coaches, almost in tears. The win garnered reactions from several Olympians and Athletes, who saw history scripted.

Virendar Sehwag congratulated the team, saying he had never been happier before.
