On the occasion of Women’s day, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a one-off Test between India and England women’s teams. Shah didn’t reveal the date of the game but it will be happening later this year. The fixture is likely to be a part of the India Women’s tour of England later in the year.

On the occasion of #InternationalWomensDay, I’m pleased to announce that #TeamIndia @BCCIWomen will play a one-off Test match against @ECB_cricket later this year. The women in blue will be donning the whites again,” the tweet read.

The last Test match that Mithali Raj and Co. played was against South Africa women at Mysuru in December 2014. And it will be another traditional format game after six long years. They had won their last game convincingly by an innings. Ever since there have been only three times that women’s Test has been played. And on all three occasions, it has been between England and Australia.

The Indian women started their journey in all whites back in 1976 against the West Indies. Since then, India has featured in 36 women’s Tests winning five while drawing a whopping 25 games. The Women in Blue have faced England the most times in whites, 13. And boast of a 100% win percentage against South Africa winning both the games they have played against them.

Former captain Sandhya Agarwal is the highest scorer for India in the format with 1,110 runs at an average of over 50. With the ball, former cricketer Diana Edulji leads the line with 63 wickets at an average of 25.77. It will be interesting to see the Indian women in all whites after six long years. The game will be taking place in June or July this year.
