Indiana Fever landing A’ja Wilson’s favorite teammate has fans in shock: “Nobody wanted to play with Caitlin Clark though?”
The Indiana Fever were not considered a major attraction for free agents due to the attention Caitlin Clark receives.
A'ja Wilson's teammate Sydney Colson joins Indiana fever as Caitlin Clark's backup
Before the WNBA free agency started, many fans and publications felt that the increased attention the Indiana Fever receive will probably keep potential recruits away. They might not want to associate with the ‘hate’ that comes along with failing alongside Caitlin Clark.
One of her teammates who bore the brunt of some of that ‘hate’ was NaLyssa Smith. Her relationship with DiJonai Carrington was one of the reasons for that. But it seems the franchise had other plans as they traded her away to the Dallas Wings.
In return they acquired Sophie Cunningham from the Phoenix Mercury. But the guard is not a like for like replacement, hence they went out and acquired free agent Natasha Howard. One major free agent moving was a good sign, but some felt the team needed more.
Then came in another major signing in the form of DeWanna Bonner. The six-time All-Star could have joined her fiancée Alyssa Thomas at the Mercury. Instead, when she decided to team up with Clark, the ‘haters’ were quietly slipping out of the discourse. Then ESPN’s Alexa Philippou dropped another bombshell.

This meant, one of A’ja Wilson‘s favorite teammates was joining the Indiana Fever. That too, Sydney Colson‘s position meant she would be backing up Caitlin Clark. Now with the Fever replete with enough talent in each position group, the team has shaped up to be a title contender.
Fans losing their minds on Sydney Colson backing up Caitlin Clark
For WNBA fans, this move shocked more than any of the other free agency additions. Sydney Colson was a part of the Las Vegas Aces team that won back-to-back titles. More importantly, she was one of the core players who have shaped their culture. Along with that, she is backing up a player who her former teammates allegedly envied all season long.
Fans believe this Sydney Colson signing is a slap in the face of all those who made it seem like Caitlin Clark was a problem for the league. Check out some of those comments below.
A lot of the elitist wnba fans said nobody wanted to play with Caitlin Clark though? https://t.co/AhzQpkPlgl

So far, four veterans have shown so far that they want to team up with the WNBA rookie of the year. The Indiana Fever want to contend for a WNBA title this season. Therefore, they pulled out all the stops to get the veteran help Caitlin Clark needed last season.
