Moussa Marega celebrates after scoring Porto’s 2nd goal

Juventus shot themselves in the foot in the 1st minute when Bentancur’s back pass to Szczesny was pounced on by Taremi to score the first goal of the night. Their plan of playing out from the back proved dangerous on a number of occasions as the goalkeeper and the midfielders never looked in sync.

Juventus dominated possession in the first half but couldn’t create enough chances to threaten the Porto goal. Giorgio Chiellini suffered a calf injury and had to be taken off for Demiral.

The second half began in the same way just as the first one. Juventus were left napping when Wilson Manafa ran down the right before rolling across for Marega to turn in at the near post.

The second goal for Porto brought out more urgency from Juventus. Chiesa scored in the 82nd minute from a Rabiot cross from the left flank. Porto hadn’t conceded a goal at home in the Champions League until Chiesa’s volley.

The referee had an almost perfect game but Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus should have had a penalty just before the end of play. Ronaldo controlled a ball under his foot but the Porto defender went through Ronaldo to get hold of the ball. The decision wasn’t checked by VAR and he blew the final whistle.

However, Juventus will need to be much better to defeat FC Porto and qualify for the quarter finals. The 2nd leg tie will be held on 10th March.
