Ever since Caitlin Clark returned from injury, she was expected to help the Indiana Fever return to their winning ways. The combination of her playmaking alongside her electric scoring becomes a problem for the opposition.

The New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun faced that problem in its full force when they lost against the Fever. Since then, the Indianapolis-based franchise has embarked on a road trip that has resulted in 2 losses and 1 win.

Against the Seattle Storm, Caitlin Clark was controlling the ball in the opposition’s half when she lost her footing and went down to the floor. The result of that tumble came to light earlier, before their game against the Los Angeles Sparks, when it was revealed that Clark would miss the game.

She had suffered a groin injury and would be observed on a day-to-day basis. Even though she misses games, the 23-year-old makes it a habit to sit on the bench and support her teammates. In the game against the Sparks, she did the same.

Every player knows Caitlin Clark’s competitiveness. Kelsey Plum noticed that the Fever guard was yelling at officials from the sidelines. In a hilarious turn of events, the two-time champion pointed at Clark, asking the officials to give her a technical foul.

Plum pointed out that the reigning Rookie of the Year had crossed onto the court, which is not allowed during a game. Clark, Kelsey Plum, and their respective head coaches were smiling at this exchange as they knew it was in good spirits.

Caitlin Clark-less Fever succumb to late pressure from Sparks

Without Caitlin Clark running their offense, the Indiana Fever usually struggles to get their game plan in motion. After releasing DeWanna Bonner, they brought back Aari McDonald to help stabilize their situation.

She played 24 minutes and racked up 14 points. The Fever used that to hold a 10-point lead at the start of the 4th quarter. However, throughout the next several minutes, the home team struggled to handle the pressure their opponents laid on them.

The Los Angeles Sparks used their speed and physicality to confuse the Fever. At the same time, they used those two skills to both out-rebound the home team as well as stop them from scoring easily. Those tactics helped the Sparks reduce the deficit and then take the lead.

They held on to it towards the end, despite the Fever’s attempts to wrestle the game back. In those moments, fans might wonder what Caitlin Clark, despite her recent shooting woes, could have done to avoid losing to a team that is one of the worst in the league.

Caitlin Clark vs. Paige Bueckers doubtful

Caitlin Clark is without a doubt the needle that moves the WNBA. She is one of the prime reasons for the growth the league is currently experiencing. That fame also helped opposition teams to sell many more tickets than they usually do.

The Dallas Wings did the same after they scheduled their game against the Indiana Fever to be held on June 27th at the much larger American Airlines Center. The problem is that Clark’s injury might not allow the much-anticipated battle against college rival and friend Paige Bueckers.

Fans have spent a lot of money to purchase tickets to the game, as they want to watch the back-to-back No. 1 overall picks go at each other. The last time these two clashed in college, millions watched the game.

The WNBA would be hoping the same would happen this time. However, the mismanagement of the Indiana Fever could result in a disappointing game. That is, unless they rested her against the Sparks to ensure she would be ready to play against Bueckers.
