Insider criticizes Jerry Jones’ lack of urgency to give Micah Parsons’ a contract extension
Jordan Schultz slammed Jerry Jones for stalling Micah Parsons' contract extension, and the longer he does so, the prospects of a trade become more likely.

The Dallas Cowboys started their off-season workout sessions on Monday, but Micah Parsons still remains without a contract extension. Time is running out quickly. If Jerry Jones doesn’t act soon, the Cowboys might lose their star player.
During the recent episode of The Herd on FS1, FOX’s NFL insider Jordan Schultz weighed in on the Micah Parsons contract situation. Schultz pointed out that Jones should change his negotiation process. It’s no longer the 1990s when he could negotiate directly with the player.
During the NFL owners’ meeting, Jones caught heat. The owner/general manager of the NFC East club revealed he didn’t know the name of Parsons’ agent.
This is why Colin [Cowherd] the Cowboys have not been relevant since the 1990s. This is not Emmitt Smith. You don’t talk and deal with the player like you did three decades ago [because] the agent has been powered in a way that is significantly different than in the 1990s with [Troy] Aikman and [Michael] Irvin and as a result of that in my opinion, Jerry [Jones] is still thinking archaically that the right way to handle a Micah Parsons extension is to basically ask Micah one-on-one.
Jordan Schultz said
Jerry Jones has built the #Cowboys into an iconic brand, but when it comes to Micah Parsons' contract negotiation — he's operating an archaic franchise, when in reality he should be respecting the symbiotic relationship between agent-player.

Meanwhile, reporters tried to get some locker-room gossip out of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott about Parsons’ extension. Prescott remained tight-lipped.
Micah and I have talked in the locker room. [I want to] leave that as locker room talks. But [I am] very confident in that guy, and what he can do, who he is, and what he wants to do is as important as anything. And that’s in being a leader and the contract. I don’t have the full answer for it.

Jones took eons to extend Prescott’s contract before the Pro Bowler became the highest-paid NFL player of all time.
Could the Cowboys trade Micah Parsons if the contract negotiations fail?
Earlier, Parsons teased that he wanted to be compensated equivalent to his numbers on the football field. He was happy to wait for the good news until the pass-rushing market went through a massive overhaul.

The Cleveland Browns agreed to a five-year, $200 million deal with star defensive end Myles Garrett. Garrett became the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
The Las Vegas Raiders also extended pass rusher Maxx Crosby’s stay in Sin City. Crosby signed a three-year, $106.5 million contract with a $91.5 million guaranteed contract with the Raiders.
Parsons is an important player for the Cowboys, but it’s a long shot that Jones agrees to pay him money similar to Garrett. A deal similar to Crosby’s may be the way to go for Jones.
However, there’s an issue. Micah Parsons hinted that he’s expecting a $200 million contract extension. If Jones fails to meet the 25-year-old’s demands, then maybe the Cowboys have to explore trade options.
For weeks, there have been murmurs about whether the Cowboys will actually give Micah Parsons a record-breaking contract — or if a trade could become a possibility. It still seems far-fetched, but with the market now at $40M per year, this situation is one to watch.

Jones wouldn’t give up on someone who has his phone number that easily. However, the ball is in Parsons’ court, and if the numbers on the check don’t satisfy him, then the Cowboys would have no other option but to trade Micah Parsons.
Yahoo Sports senior writer Charles Robinson projected that Jones would want no less than three first-round draft picks for Penn State graduate.
Brian Burns drew an offer of two first-round picks, plus. You can’t tell me that Brian Burns being worth two first-round picks to any NFL team does not make Micah Parsons worth at a bare minimum three first-round picks.
Charles Robinson wrote
According to Spotrac, Parsons has a $5.434 million cap hit in 2024 and a $21.324 million cap hit in 2025. He has played 63 games since the Cowboys selected him in the first round. In those games, Parsons recorded 52.5 sacks, 9 pass deflections, 9 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.
