Chris Paul‘s second stint with the Los Angeles Clippers did not go as planned and it was largely due to his broken relationship with head coach Tyronn Lue. Not only was the waive-off a huge surprise to the NBA world, but it was also the manner in which it was done as Paul was not informed about the franchise’s decision to cut him off.
While Chris Paul may end his career without having won an NBA Championship, he is arguably one of the greatest point-guards to have ever played the game. There is no doubt that the former number four pick in the 2005 NBA draft is the greatest player to ever don the Clippers jersey. Paul spent some of his best years with the Clippers alongside Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan from 2011-17. The trio popularly known as the ‘Lob City’ gave relevance to the franchise.
The 40-year-old is known for being vocal and not shying away from speaking his mind. But it appears that this attitude caused a rift between him and the Clippers staff over Kawhi Leonard during a game against the Dallas Mavericks.
There were also reports that Paul and Ty Lue were not on speaking terms. Although Lue denied any rift with the 12-time NBA All-Star, it did not stop the rumors of their fractured relationship. Paul had announced that the 2025-26 campaign would be the final chapter of his illustrious career, hence, the unceremonious ending was painful to many fans. But unfortunately, that is the reality of the NBA.
NBA Insider for NBA on Prime, Chris Haynes shared some more details about what happened between the guard and the head coach.
Chris Paul did reach out to Ty Lue, I know he did text him and Lue responded back ‘I don’t wanna meet’. So they did not have a meeting. They were talking every now & then, for when Chris Paul got into the game. I spoke to Paul last week, I know firsthand he was very disappointed with the way things were handled, particularly, how it pertains to Lue because he felt they had agreat relationship.

Paul was not able to help the Clippers much, who are having a disastrous start to the season, as he averaged 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists coming off the bench.
Which clubs are interested in Chris Paul?
Despite the anti-climactic ending to his time with the Clippers, Paul is still interested in playing out for the remainder of the season. A player of his experience will be important in bringing some leadership into the locker room. NBA reporter, Brett Siegel shared that a couple of clubs are interested in the veteran.

The Minnesota Timberwolves or the Houston Rockets are two teams that had been rumored to have a level of interest in Chris Paul. There’s going to be a ton of other teams that inquire about him simply because he’s on a minimum contract.
Paul will be able to provide leadership to both of these young squads as both of them are very much in contention to go all the way.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s message for his teammates
It is not a secret anymore that Giannis Antetokounmpo wants out of the Milwaukee Bucks. The 31-year-old has grown frustrated with the franchise’s lack of ambition in building a squad around him to contend for a championship. Since lifting the trophy in 2021, the Bucks have largely underperformed in the playoffs.
The Greek requested a trade in the offseason after the club traded Damian Lillard back to Portland. Since no move materialized, Antetokounmpo decided to stay for another season. But it seems like he wants out as soon as possible after a poor start to the season for the Bucks.
Chris Haynes reported that Antetokounmpo met with some of his Bucks teammates to address the rumors of his future.
Antetokounmpo met with some teammates to address rumors of his future and to stress the importance of focusing in basketball and to not allow the outside distractions to interfere with the process in hand. His point was that he is here at the time being, wanting to get better, making sure he gets his game back on point. He relayed the message that he cannot control what happens to him.

The nine-time NBA All-Star will definitely have a lot of suitors, as a player of his caliber can help a franchise to contend for a championship.
