There is a big change happening at the QB position in the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. Veteran Russell Wilson is set to make his season debut after making a full recovery from his calf injury. Mike Tomlin’s inclination to switch quarterbacks at this stage of the season despite Pittsburgh’s 4-2 record has resulted in a bit of skepticism amongst fans.

Turns out it is not just fans who harbor reservations about Mike Tomlin’s decision to consider starting Russell Wilson this weekend. NFL Insider and Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer revealed on The Rich Eisen Show that the quarterback switch “is a decision that has not been made yet.” He further went on to say that Wilson at QB1 is not a sure thing yet.

It is a decision that is likely to be made towards the end of the week. However, the members of the Steelers offense are certain that Fields gives them an advantage over Wilson.

I know some people there that feel like Tomlin is gonna take this thing to end of the week and really take a hard look at it.

Russell Wilson will limit the offensive options of the Steelers

Fields is a better runner than Wilson whose abilities limit him to just throwing the ball.

There are a ton of people in that place right now that feel like Russell Wilson would limit them on offense in a way that Justin Fields does not, which I think is a big part of the reason why so many people there just wish that Tomlin would stick with Fields.

This does not come as a surprise considering Fields has shown results. Through six games, Justin Fields has racked up 1,106 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception. It is not his passing stats that impress but his rushing numbers. Fields has 5 touchdowns and 174 yards rushing. He is a dual-threat quarterback who gives more options to the Steelers offense. This is not pleasant news for Russell Wilson who has been eyeing an opportunity to start.

The veteran signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in hopes of getting the chance to prove he is worthy of being a starter in the NFL. However, at this point, there is a possibility that he may not get that chance at all. If Mike Tomlin does decide to go with Wilson, he would be taking a risk at messing with the team dynamics. To find what direction the Steelers go, fans will need to wait until Sunday.
