With the speculations flying wild, ESPN has reported that Lionel Messi’s former teammate at Argentina, Javier Mascherano is going to be the new boss of Inter Miami. It was confirmed on Friday, that Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino had stepped down from the position of the head coach due to ‘strictly personal reasons.’
ESPN reported that the two parties are in advanced talks for the contract to be signed. Javier Mascherano recently led the Argentina U23 team at the Paris Olympics where they finished in the second position in the group stages and got eliminated in the quarter-finals after a slender defeat against Thierry Henry’s France.

In his farewell message for the club, Martino said that it was an honour for him to be a part of the club. He enjoyed his stay at Inter Miami and will be treasuring his memories made at the club for the rest of his life. He was grateful for his time at the club and wanted to thank everyone who made the journey a memorable one.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s contract at Inter Miami is set to expire at the end of 2025 but both the parties do hold the key to extend his stay at Inter Miami.
Mascherano also opened up about the contract of Lionel Messi. He stated that both of them are going to get into a thorough discussion about the latter’s future at the club.
Mascherano also underlined the fact that Messi is an exceptional leader while being a competitive beast whose hunger to win is supreme. He concluded with a note of ambition for Inter Miami as the club is eyeing to be a part of Copa Libertadores where the best teams from South America will be heading to duke it out for glory.
