UEFA Champions League: Inter vs Liverpool Player Ratings as Liverpool manage a 2-0 away win

Inter vs Liverpool: Inter hosted Liverpool at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the 1st Leg of the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool looked more threatening in the first half but Inter’s back three were brilliant in defence and denied any shot on target. Inter’s wing backs looked potent making good runs, but it remained 0-0 at half time.

Inter were the better team for most of the second half pressing high and creating chances. But it was Liverpool that broke the deadlock through Firmino’s header off a corner. The game was sealed when Salah netted a deflected goal in the 83rd minute.

Samir Handanovic (5/10): Handanovic did not have much to do for a large portion of the match but could not save the only 2 shots on target.

Milan Skriniar (7.5/10): Skriniar was brilliant at the back and made quite a few interceptions and crucial last-minute blocks.

Stefan de Vrij (6.8/10): The centre back made numerous blocks in the box. His tired legs could not clear the ball in the box and gave away a second Liverpool goal.

Alessandro Bastoni (6.7/10): Apart from letting Firmino latch onto the ball from the corner, Bastoni had a good game in defence.

Denzel Dumfries (6.5/10): The right wing back made good runs in the front but was defensively weak.

Arturo Vidal (7.2/10): The veteran midfielder was sliding in with tackles and looked a bit reckless at times. His distribution and presence in midfield were good.

Marcelo Brozovic (6.5/10): The defensive midfielder was not imposing in the middle and gave away many balls.

Hakan Calhanoglu (7.6/10): Calhanoglu’s first half shot hit the crossbar. He did his defensive duties well, including a crucial clearance in front of goal.

Ivan Perisic (7.8/10): Perisic went past Alexander-Arnold way too easily and was very creative on the left wing. He was arguably Inter’s best player on the day.

Edin Dzeko (5.8/10): Dzeko was pretty slow with the ball and missed a few chances to create a chance.

Lautaro Martinez (5.5/10): Martinez just had a single shot to offer and that too was off target. He was replaced by Sanchez in the second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (6.5/10): The right back was good in attack but was a defensive liability forcing radical changes from Klopp.

Ibrahima Konate (8.1/10): Konate was exceptional for Liverpool at the back with his blocks and interceptions. The big guy used his strength well to hold off the attackers.

Virgil van Dijk (7.8/10): The captain was phenomenal in defence and rescued his team numerous times. His 1v1 defending was brilliant.

Andy Robertson (8.2/10): Robertson was at his usual best whipping in crosses from the left flank and contributing in the defence. He also got an assist from a corner.

Harvey Elliott (5.8/10): The 18-year-old did not have a memorable Champions League debut. He could not impose himself in the match.

Fabinho (6.4/10): The defensive midfielder had a decent game but was not at his best. He was replaced by Henderson in the second half.

Thiago (7.5/10): Thiago had a good game in the middle of the park and made quite a few key passes. He also made a crucial interception in Liverpool’s box.

Sadio Mane (5.9/10): Mane lost the most number of duels in the match. Klopp replaced him with the newly signed Diaz in the 60th minute.
