First Half

Spain Players

Spain dominated the game from the early proceedings and passed the ball with purpose. They deservedly got the first goal in the 18th minute as Sergio Canales fired a shot into the bottom corner through a Morata pass. However, both the teams lost out key players to injury in the first half with Nathan Ake and Gaya coming off. Netherlands were not able to get a sniff of the goal as Spain kept creating chances at the other with Morata shining throughout the first half.

Second Half

Netherlands coach, De Boer made four changes at half time as he looked to get his team back in to the match. The team came out strongly after the break and got the equalizer through Van De Beek in the 47th minute. The player got to the end of a loose ball and slotted a finish past Unai Simon. Meanwhile, Spain created some good chances in the second half with Koke and Asensio guilty of missing easy chances. Depay got an golden opportunity to win the game for Netherlands with just the goalkeeper to beat but he took a touch too many and attempted a tame shot.

Spain coach, Luis Enrique was happy with his side’s performance and said, “We had some good spells but we were a bit unorganized in the second half and they piled lots of players forward and we struggled to cope with that. Overall I got good sensations from the game. “Our plan was to have the players fresh for our two competitive games and I’m more than satisfied with what I saw.”
