Serena Williams was seen hosting the 2024 ESPYs where she ridiculed Drake for picking a fight with Kendrick Lamar. She took the internet by storm by commenting on the Kendrick and Drake feud where she predictably sided with the former.
But that is not what made the fans go bonkers. It was when she followed this comment by ‘c-walking’ to “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, and not just once.

However, this was not all she had to say about Drake, because she also emphasized how “he (Kendrick) will make your hometown not like you.” Serena Williams took jaw-dropping shots while hosting the ESPYs this July 11, 2024, which earned her boisterous laughter from the audience.
The internet is flooded with opinions on Serena Williams’ hosting where some applaud her for the jabs she delivered in her monologue while others did not find it as pleasant. However, some fans noted that this dig on Drake might just be a retaliation for Drake calling Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, a “groupie” in one of his raps back in 2022.
One part of the internet criticizes Serena for performing a dance associated with a culture she isn’t part of. Another segment, focused on rap culture, sees it as a full circle moment, referencing Kendrick Lamar’s defense of her in his lyrics: “From Alondra down to Central, n***a better not speak on Serena.”

It may come as a refresher for people to know that the ESPYs were not the first time Serena was seen c-walking. After defeating Maria Sharapova in the 2012 London Olympic women’s singles final in little over an hour and securing the gold medal, Serena had performed the said dance.
Netizens called this an iconic victory as she c-walked toward the gold medal against Sharapova, her longstanding career rival. This was one of the most lopsided matches ever held between these two because of Williams beating Sharapova in just 62 minutes, making it even more legendary.
From 2012 to 2024, one thing that remained the same about Serena’s way of celebrating through a c-walk. On both instances, she had nailed down her opponent taking the audience off-guard.
