On Sunday (October 6), the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against the Phoenix Suns in a pre-season matchup. Notably, LeBron James and his son Bronny James played their first NBA game together on the court. In doing so, the two made history as the first father and son to play for the same side.
In front of a packed house of over 10,000 people at Acrisure Arena, the two took to the court at the start of the second quarter. This moment went viral on the internet among NBA fans around the globe.
Many fans put forward their heartfelt support and love for the father-son duo. One fan even stated that he was about to tear up. Interestingly, NBA legend James Sr had spoken in the past about sharing the court with his son, which he has finally achieved.
In July, following the Lakers’ selection of Bronny in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, James Sr. declared it was a “dream come true” move and added that playing alongside his son “is the greatest accomplishment he’s ever had.”
Furthermore, James Sr. recently said that he was very supportive of his son. He has also stated in various podcasts that Bronny will ‘keep his head down and work’ no matter the situation. Hence, it will be intriguing to watch how Bronny James performs in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.

After missing Friday’s preseason opener, James Sr. was present on court for Sunday’s matchup. He and Anthony Davis led the Lakers in the first half with 19 points on 8 of 12 shots and 17 points on 7 of 10 shots, respectively.
On the other hand, in his four minutes and nine seconds of play in the second quarter, James Jr. failed to score, missing his lone attempt and making three mistakes. This is somewhat expected from him and he has a lot of time to improve and develop.
