Joel Embiid and injuries have always gone hand in hand ever since the Cameroonian-American international set foot into the NBA. Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers as the number three pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Embiid missed the first two seasons of his career due to long-term injuries. Despite all his injury setbacks, the center is still considered one of the best players in the league when healthy.

The 76ers have taken it slow with Joel Embiid this season. The 31-year-old has played just 13 games so far this season. The club have faced a lot of scrutiny and has been fined before by the NBA regarding Embiid’s health issues.

Embiid has led a career with injuries that have derailed the majority of his NBA career. While he has played under minutes restriction this season, Embiid is currently averaging 21.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

Despite the 76ers center missing more than half of the games already, the club still find themselves contending for a direct playoff qualification. They are currently placed at fifth in the Eastern Conference standings with an impressive 16-13 record. During the absences of Embiid and Paul George, it was Tyrese Maxey who was carrying the franchise. The guard has been so impressive that he has been getting MVP shouts for his performances this season.

However, Embiid has seen a jump in his playing time over the last four games and is averaging almost 30 points. He put in another dominant display scoring 31 points to go along with five rebounds but to no avail as the 76ers suffered a 109-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on Friday night.

After the recent loss to the Bulls, the 76ers have gone 0-4 when their so-called Big Three step onto the court together. The trio combined to score 73 points on Friday night while the rest of the team scored just 29 points.

Signing George on free agency was supposed to elevate the club’s chances of contending for the NBA Championship. There is still a lot to play for in a wide open Eastern Conference and if head coach Nick Nurse can have a healthy squad and figure out how to optimize the most out of his core trio, 76ers can create some noise in the East.
