IPL 2020: Ashwin will be ready for the next game, says captain Shreyas Iyer

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Shreyas Iyer has provided an update on their senior bowler R Ashwin after the veteran spinner injured himself while trying to save a run during IPL’s match against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.

The ace spinner injured his shoulder while going for a dive off the last ball of his over and was seen writhing in pain. He walked off the field and did not come back for the rest of the match.

Ashwin’s left arm was in a sling and sources said that he had a possible dislocated shoulder. However, there was no clear picture till then. Although, the Delhi captain, Iyer, has said that Ashwin told him he was fine and ready for the next game.

“I briefly spoke to Ashwin, and he says he’ll be ready for the next game, but in the end, the physio is going to decide,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

Ashwin is likely to play Delhi’s next game against Chennai Super Kings on September 25 in Dubai. The Indian veteran picked two wickets of Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran in his very first over before getting injured.

Delhi Capitals defeated Kings XI Punjab in the super over after both teams ended on 157. Kagiso Rabada bowled a brilliant super over and helped Delhi register its first victory of the tournament.
