The second match of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) showed everything that could happen on a cricket field. There was a close finish, a wrong umpiring decision, a Super Over and a heartbreaking ending for KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Everyone third person believes that Punjab lost the game because of the umpiring error in the 19th over of the first innings.

Several cricketers and experts shared their viewpoints on the matter. India veteran Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to share his views and said that the difference between both the teams was that short-run.

“I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match.
Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference,”
he tweeted.

Bollywood actress and KXIP’s co-owner Preity Zinta also expressed her dissatisfaction over the issue. She replied to Sehwag’s tweet and said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should look into it.

Actress Zinta also said that as the Indian board has such advanced technology, it should be used to avoid such errors.

I travelled enthusiastically during a pandemic, did 6 days of Quarantine & 5covid tests with a smile but that one Short Run hit me hard. What’s the point of technology if it cannot be used? It’s time BCCI should introduce new rules. This cannot happen every year.”

Short-run was the difference between DC and KXIP

A snapshot of the short run that cost Kings XI Punjab the match against DC.

In the 19th over of the first innings, Chris Jordan reached his ground after finishing a run. Meanwhile, the umpire felt that Jordan fell short and the side was not awarded the run. In the replay, it became clear that Jordan’s bat was inside the crease.

The match resulted in a tie, after which Delhi Capitals won the game in the super over. Kagiso Rabada, repeated what he did against KKR last year and produced another sensational super over on Sunday. He gave just two runs with Delhi needing just 3 to win the game. Rishabh Pant didn’t take too long as he finished the game in just 2 deliveries.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals made 157 runs in 20 overs, thanks to the brilliant knock by Marcus Stoinis, who made 53 off just 21 balls. In pursuit of the total, Kings XI Punjab slipped to 55 for 5 in 9.6 overs.

Kings XI Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next game on September 24.
