IPL 2020: Fans go crazy as Chris Gayle the ‘Universe Boss’ returns with a bang
KXIP opener Chris Gayle finally made his much-awaited IPL debut this season helping his side to an 8 wicket victory against his former team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Universe Boss was right in the centre of all action right from the first innings where he made an unbelievable dive to save 4 runs in the 2nd over and topped that up with an in-style celebration making his presence felt on the field. However, a good knock from captain Virat Kohli and quickfire at the end from Chris Morris ensured that the KXIP wouldn’t be getting their win in the easiest of run chases.
Chris Gayle yet did not open the batting as KXIP decided to stick with the opening combination of Rahul-Agarwal. After an explosive start to the innings Gayle came in to bat in the 8th over after the dismissal of an in-form Mayank Agarwal. Even though he took some balls to get going, he showed why he is one of the most feared batsmen in the T20 format as he and KL Rahul single-handedly carried the team towards the total. His knock of 53 runs of just 45 balls which included 5 sixes and a boundary showed he still had the ability to bat till the end, only if it was not for an unfortunate run-out on the 2nd last delivery of game trying to win the match for the team.
