Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the richest cricket leagues all over the world. The scale of this cash-rich tournament has increased over the 13 editions since 2008. This season of IPL was a bit different from its previous ones as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosted it.

Mumbai Indians overcame their UAE jinx to lift their fifth IPL title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Now, let’s look at the top five Indian players with the highest salary in the 13th edition of the tournament

5. KL Rahul (KXIP)/Hardik Pandya (MI)/Manish Pandey (SRH) | INR 11 Cr

Three players from different franchises: KL Rahul (Kings XI Punjab), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians) and Manish Pandey (Sunrisers Hyderabad) grabbed INR 11 crores each. KL Rahul also made his debut as the skipper of KXIP and won the Orange Cap for them.

While Hardik Pandya played a crucial role for his side as a finisher with a tremendous strike rate. On the other hand, Manish Pandey had a decent season with the bat for the Orange Army, scoring 425 runs in 15 innings. 

4. Rishabh Pant (DC) | INR 15 Cr

Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant received a massive salary of INR 15 crores in IPL 2020.  However, Rishabh Pant failed to justify the amount with his bat as he ended up scoring only 343 runs in 14 matches. Moreover, he scored these runs at a disappointing strike rate of 113.

3. Rohit Sharma (MI) | INR 15 Cr

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was retained by his franchise for a whopping amount of INR 15 crores. Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great season with the bat as he could score only 332 runs in 12 games. However, the MI skipper played a tremendous knock of 68 runs in IPL 2020 final against Delhi Capitals to clinch the trophy for his side.

2. MS Dhoni (CSK) | INR 15 Cr

MS Dhoni

One of the greatest legends of Indian cricket, MS Dhoni grabbed a handsome salary of INR 15 crores from Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. But the former India wicketkeeper-batsman had one of the worst seasons in this multi-franchise league. Dhoni also failed to lead CSK to the playoffs of the tournament for the first time in the history of IPL.

Virat Kohli

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli is the costliest player in the history of Indian Premier League. The RCB skipper made a significant contribution for his side with the bat as well, smashing 466 runs in 15 matches. Moreover, the 32-year old scored these runs at an impressive average of 42. He also led his side to the playoffs of IPL 2020.
