IPL 2021: Moeen Ali refrains from sporting alcohol brand logo on CSK jersey

Moeen Ali
Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) fresh recruit this season, Moeen Ali is rearing to go as the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) draws closer. The former champions filled their only available overseas player slot as they roped in Moeen at a price of INR 7 crores. The Englishman’s all-round abilities are something CSK will be looking forward to this season.
Ahead of their first game, players of all the franchises are being photographed in their brand new jerseys. It is the same with the Super Kings who have roped in a new title sponsor, Myntra, this season. During one of the shoots, it was noticed that Moeen is not sporting the logo of alcoholic beverage company SNJ 10000, one of CSK’s sponsors, on his sleeves.

The English all-rounder doesnโt involve himself in any alcoholic promotions by his team in the past and it is the same in the IPL too. The reason behind it is that promoting liquor is strictly against the religion of Islam and Moeen follows the religious practices stringently.
Will Moeen Ali be the answer to CSK’s batting woes?

For the first time in their history, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in the IPL. And their greatest problem was their middle order. With Suresh Raina pulling out of the league and MS Dhoni out of form, CSK’s scoring rate in the middle overs cost them quite some games as they finished seventh in the table.
Moeen is known for his prowess with the bat in dire times. Having opened for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past, he is the best man to replace Kedar Jadhav in the line-up. Moeen boasts of a strike rate of 158 which is exactly the firepower CSK was missing in the last season. Moreover, his handy off-spin gives captain Dhoni another option on a flat deck at Wankhede where they will be playing the majority of their games this season.
The return of Raina, the emergence of Rituraj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa‘s signing has bolstered CSK’s batting line-up. It seems like we might finally be able to see the dominant Chennai Super Kings of the past seasons return this time around.
