Rohit Sharma lifts Mumbai Indians’ fifth IPL trophy

It was yet another blissful season of Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians as they lifted their fifth IPL title. The Rohit Sharma led side slated history in the final of the league as they became the first franchise to win as many as five IPL titles. Mumbai had clinched the prestigious title four times before in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

MI put up an all-round show in the IPL 2020 final as they took on a young Delhi Capitals side. Playing their first final, the Capitals struggled to start off as they were able to put up a fighting total of 156. But it turned out to be a cakewalk for Mumbai as they cruised to an easy win riding on Rohit’s 68 run knock.

Skipper Rohit shares that the side started preparing “way before” the season went underway and the hard work paid off for them. He feels that the side’s discipline on and off the field paved their way to the pinnacle of the 8 team tournament. The Mumbai openers went on to thank all the members of the squad for their support throughout the journey.

Firstly, big congratulations to all of us. It was a great season for us, our season did not start in August, we started preparing way before. I remember it was during some tough times in June, we started preparing and it was never going to be easy. Once we came here, it was a new environment for us, not going outside the hotel but we were disciplined as a team and we were disciplined on the field as well that is why we stand with the IPL trophy,” Rohit said in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Indians.

Guys who haven’t gotten to play at all in this tournament, I would like to thank them for their constant energy, they were quite positive and we never felt like that they were disappointed to not be in the playing XI,” he added.

With the win in the final, Rohit kept up his impeccable track record in the final. The explosive opener has featured in six IPL finals, one with the Deccan Chargers and five leading the Paltan, and have gone on to lift the trophy on all six occasions.
