The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) is speck-like Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). They always had some of the best players in their squad like Adam Gilchrist and Virender Sehwag but they never managed to win the IPL title.

Kings XI have counteracted the side out more so than in previous seasons, where heavy confidence on certain players meant their contour fizzled out towards the second half of the season.

Strengths

There are plenty of match-winners in their squad. It starts with skipper KL Rahul, opens the innings and can take the game away from the opponents.

Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair and all-rounder Jimmy Neesham are a combination of power and class.

They also have power hitters like Chris Gayle and Glenn Maxwell. They have a potent bowling unit too, including Mohammad Shami, M Ashwin, Mujib ur Rahman, Chris Jordan and Sheldon Cottrell.

Weaknesses

The franchise has a largely impressive first line up but their back up does not inspire that much confidence. If the opening line up fails then the whole squad can go down very quickly as we had seen in the past two seasons.

They have very good young talent but they are untested in the suburbs of the IPL. Chris Gayle Gayle is still a force to reckon but is 41 and also stayed away from the field for very long time.

The Anil Kumble headed Team management did a terrific job at the auction. Retrieving 2 of the top 5 costliest buys in the auction they picked Glenn Maxwell and Sheldon Cottrell.

Alongside these two, they obtained Chris Jordan, Deepak Hooda, James Neesham, K Gowtham to name a few decent investments.
