IPL 2021: “Emotions got the best of me” – Andre Russell reveals why he sat on the staircase after getting out to Sam Curran

Andre Russell
A picture of a dejected Andre Russell sitting on the staircase after losing his wicket in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been doing the rounds on social media. In fact, the cameraman during the match showed plenty of glimpses of the West Indian refusing to go to the dressing room due to the way he was dismissed out bowled by CSK’s Sam Curran.
Walking in to bat with the side at 31/5, in pursuit of a target of 221, Russell started going berserk in trademark fashion and out of nowhere, the equation for a win was made easy. Batting on 54 runs, he however, lost his wicket in truly bizarre fashion as Sam Curran had him bowled around his legs. Expecting the ball to be a wide, the West Indian moved his legs away from the delivery which went on to hit the top of leg-stump.
Andre Russell reveals getting emotional

Andre Russell spoke to Kolkata Knight Riders and answered questions about the match against CSK. On being asked as to how he was dejected and why he sat on the staircase, he said, “Well, I was very emotional and I didn’t know how to go to the changing room and face all my teammates after leaving a ball and getting out bowled like that. You know, the job is not complete, and I wanted to take the team over the line. So I think the emotions got the best of me but staying strong.”
Going on to express confidence in his ability, Russell said, “Once I’m there, you know everything is possible. Yeah, I’ve done it before a lot of times. So fans can know that listen, no doubt even when it’s 100 runs in 20 balls, there’s always a possibility of 20 sixes; who knows?”
