Kyle Jamieson
New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson went for huge money at the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a sum of Rs. 15 crores. Beginning at his base price of Rs. 75 lakhs, the bids soon started to raise meteorically which culminated in the buy for RCB after a fierce bidding war with Punjab Kings.
RCB made the opening bid before they were joined by the Delhi Capitals. There were then quick raising of the paddles and the price zoomed towards 3 crores. Very soon it went past 5 crores as RCB and DC tussled for him. Punjab Kings then entered with the price at 7.50 crores and the war continued with RCB before it finally ended with co-owner Preity Zinta saying that they were done at 15 crores.
Kyle Jamieson has not played in the IPL before
Kyle Jamieson is a bowling all-rounder who is more than capable of playing the finisher’s role for his sides. He terrorized India in India’s tour of New Zealand last year where he exploited his height (203 cm) and the movement and bounce in New Zealand to dismiss the Indian batters cheaply. It was hence, expected that Jamieson would go for big money at the auction. The expectations were proved right as his price reached Rs. 15 crores.
The auction is currently taking place in Chennai with Hugh Edmeades as the auctioneer. The event will go on till late evening depending on how much time it takes for all players to go under the hammer.
