IPL 2021: “He came to me and said ‘well bowled'” – Avesh Khan reveals what MS Dhoni told him after getting dismissed
Avesh Khan
Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Avesh Khan has been one of the best and surprise performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. A part of a team comprising of overseas pacers like Chris Woakes, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada along with Indians like Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Lukman Meriwala, Avesh would not have fancied his chances of making it to the playing XI at the start of the season.
However, the DC management showed faith in him and the fast-bowler has delivered and with some aplomb. He is currently the second highest wicket-taker in the tournament with a total of 12 wickets in 6 matches. Unlike the previous seasons, Avesh has been extremely economical this season and has executed the yorkers at the death to perfection. He has also dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni out bowled already.
Avesh Khan speaks on taking MS Dhoni’s wicket
In the campaign opener for DC and CSK, Avesh Khan dismissed MS Dhoni for a two ball duck. Speaking about how the former Indian captain spoke to him following his dismissal, Avesh told TOI, “After the match, Mahi bhai came to me and said ‘well bowled’. He also said keep bowling the way you are (right now).”
Talking of his excellent form, the 24-year-old said, “I have got the rhythm. I am enjoying my bowling a lot. I am getting wickets for my team which is a big thing for me. The coaches are backing me a lot. I am getting a lot of support from them. I got to learn a lot from Ishant and Umesh. I have put in my 100 percent so far whenever I have got the opportunity. I am really happy about my performance.”
Speaking further of how the wicket was planned, “Only a few overs were left and Pant knew that Dhoni will try to hit out. But he also knew that Dhoni is playing after a gap of four months and it won’t be easy for him. Pant told me to bowl just short of a length. I did just that, Dhoni tried to hit, but got an inside edge and was bowled,” Avesh told Indian Express.
DC will hope Avesh Khan’s excellent form continues going forward into the season. They play Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad tomorrow.
