IPL 2021: ‘Axar is better and will be ready to join the team soon,’ says Delhi Capitals Director

Last year’s runner-ups Delhi Capitals (DC) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign with a bang. The Rishabh Pant-led side beat three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opener at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. However, DC missed the services of their key player Axar Patel as he’s currently serving the mandatory quarantine period after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Capitals Director Mustafa Ghouse mentioned that Axar is better in his quarantine and he will be ready to join the team in 3-4 more days. He said that the team is currently running tests on him to know the exact availability for selection.

“Ya, Axar is better. Saturday will be day 10 of his quarantine process. Hopefully 3-4 more days, a couple of negative tests and he will be ready to join the team. We are running tests on him over the next few days to know how quickly we can get him back, available for selection. He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28 with a negative report. His report from the 2nd COVID test came positive. He is in isolation at a designated medical care facility,” Ghouse stated while speaking to Sports Today.

DC’s regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out from the entire tournament after he suffered a shoulder injury during the England series. Ghouse said that Iyer is better and has got the sensation back in his hand after the surgery. He also revealed that the 26-year old is in constant touch with the team and coach Ricky Ponting.

“Shreyas is better. He has got sensation back in his hand which is the most important factor after the surgery. He is gutted that he is not part of the team. He is in constant touch with the boys and Ricky. All we have to do now is make sure that he is on the path of recovery and getting back to playing at the level he has been before,” Ghouse concluded.
