IPL 2021: CSK ‘unsure’ on whether Suresh Raina should be retained – Reports
Suresh Raina
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered from below-par performances in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The edition was also the first time the side finished outside the playoff spots in their history. Their batting line-up could not notch up consistent performances and there were clearly issues with regard to team selection and combination, all of which led to the team’s downfall.
One of the franchise’s most loyal servants, Suresh Raina pulled out of the tournament in 2020 due to ‘personal reasons’ and the same proved to be a big blow. Amidst various reports and rumors of conflict with the team management, it remains to be seen whether the former Indian international batsman will be seen in CSK yellow again.
‘The team is revamping’ – Sources
A report in InsideSport has now emerged stating that the CSK management is confused as to whether they must retain Suresh Raina for the 2021 edition of the IPL. “CSK has to take a big call on Raina. No doubt he has contributed a lot to the CSK’s success in past. As the team is revamping itself to pay or block 11Cr from 85 Cr total pay-purse is something which may pinch the yellow army. That is the reason they are deliberating hard on the same” the source reportedly said.
The auction is set to take place in mid-February but each franchise must announce their list of retained players by January 20. So if the CSK management is in fact ‘deliberating’ and ‘unsure’, they will have to make their decision quickly. It will be very interesting to see which franchise the seasoned Raina turns up in IPL 2021.
