IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings notch up big win over Rajasthan Royals
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) produced an all-round performance to get past Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium. Both teams were coming into the match off the back of wins in their respective second matches – RR getting past Delhi Capitals (DC) in a last-over thriller and CSK thrashing Punjab Kings (PBKS) with a stupendous bowling performance.
Earlier, RR won the toss and opted to field first with both teams not making changes to their winning combination. Beginning on a patient note, CSK lost their first wicket early with Ruturaj Gaikwad disappointing yet again. However, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali kept the scoreboard ticking. The two overseas players were lively in their stay as they put pressure on the RR bowlers, especially the spinners.
CSK get their second win of IPL 2021
After the duo’s dismissals, CSK had a bit of a wobble as Suresh Raina struggled to get going. But, Ambati Rayudu came in and upped the ante with some eye-pleasing shots. Following the aforesaid duos dismissals, there were some key and quick contributions from MS Dhoni, Sam Curran and Dwayne Bravo which helped CSK get to 188 – the same scored that came in a losing cause in their opening match against DC.
In the chase which began in brisk fashion, Manan Vohra once again flattered to deceive. With Sanju Samson getting out cheaply as well, the onus was on Jos Buttler to deliver and he seemed to have RR on course for a win. However, once the spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali arrived, RR totally crumbled to suffer a dramatic collapse that saw them completely capitulate and lose by 45 runs.
