The COVID-19 situation is getting worse by the day in India. With as many as 3 lakh cases and more being reported day by day, there have been a plethora of problems plaguing the country like shortage of oxygen supplies. This has led to huge concern in India as well as around the world. At this juncture, players who are taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been doing their bit to help in the fight against the virus.
Due to concerns about the uncertain situation in India, players have left the tournament as well. Australians Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa have left for Australia while Ravichandran Ashwin stated that he was ‘taking a break’. At this juncture, there have been some noteworthy donations and contributions from players.
Australian pacer Pat Cummins was the first to donate as he contributed USD 50,000 for the PM Cares Fund. Commentator Brett Lee then followed with 1 BitCoin while Indian players Sheldon Jackson and Shreevats Goswami also donated for the cause. Further, Rajasthan Royals (RR) donated a sum of Rs. 7.5 crore pooled from its players, management and owners to help procure oxygen.
Delhi Capitals and patrons contribute to NGOs

Following RR’s contributions, the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise have donated a sum of Rs. 1.5 crores to NGOs. The side took to Twitter to announce the news and soon after the announcement, tweets of appreciation flooded the franchise’s comments, with people urging more franchises to follow suit.
DC captioned the announcement on Twitter, “Delhi Capitals and its patrons, the @JSWFoundation & GMR Varalakshmi Foundation are offering financial support amounting to INR 1.5 Cr to NCR based NGOs, the @Hemkunt_Fdn and the @UdayFoundation.”
