IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals retain 19 players ahead of auction; release Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane and Jason Roy

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) who finished as runner-up in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have announced their list of retained players ahead of the auction for the 2021 edition. The franchise has retained a whopping amount of 19 players, deciding to go with a largely unchanged side. The 19 players include 6 overseas players.
DC have a young side and are led by a promising captain in Shreyas Iyer and with no problems of fitness or age, it is no surprise that they have gone for a plethora of retentions. With Ricky Ponting at the helm, the side will look to go one better in 2021 and get their hands on the coveted trophy which has been eluding them right from the time of the tournament’s grand inception in 2008.
Paul, Lamichhane, Carey and Roy released

Delhi Capitals have released a total of 6 players from their squad which includes two Indians and four overseas stars. They are Tushar Deshpande, Mohit Sharma, Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Alex Carey and Jason Roy. It is noteworthy that none of these players got a lot of match-time in the 2020 edition of the IPL. Even if they did, they couldn’t create much of an impact.
The core has meanwhile been retained and the 19 retained players are Indian internationals Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, along with Lalit Yadav, Pravin Dubey and Avesh Khan.
DC have also retained six overseas players which include last season’s Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada, along with his South African pace partner Anrich Nortje, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, West Indian batsman Shimron Hetmyer and English bowler Chris Woakes. From the 19 retained players, 2 – Harshal Patel and Daneiel Sams have been traded to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
