Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals would be eyeing revenge against Mumbai Indians as they were crushed by the latter four times in the IPL 2020 which included the finals too.

Delhi Capitals chased down a massive target in their last game against Punjab Kings. After winning the toss, captain Rishabh Pant elected to bowl first, and Punjab Kings amassed a huge total of 196 runs in the first innings. Ashwin once again was economical but didn’t get a wicket. Avesh Khan bowled tight lines and got a wicket. Rest other bowlers were hammered for runs.

Capitals got off to an incredible start as they came out to chase the big target. Prithvi Shaw made full use of the powerplay and scored 32 runs off just 17 balls, while Shikhar Dhawan, an established player, demonstrated his scoring intent by scoring 92 runs off 49 deliveries, including 13 fours and two massive sixes and Marcus Stoinis guided the team towards victory with a vital 27-run innings off 13 balls.

Delhi Capitals will now play in Chepauk, which is a slow and sluggish wicket. They may add in another spinner to complement Ashwin.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians had a great record against Delhi Capitals in the last season as they managed to defeat them four times and ended up being the champions. After losing the opening match of the season, Mumbai have bounced back with two victories in a row by defending low totals.

Rohit Sharma elected to bat first after winning the toss in their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma got off to a good start. De Kock played a critical inning of 40 runs off 39 deliveries, while Rohit Sharma scored 32 runs off 25 balls.  Mumbai Indians’ middle order struggled to deliver, resulting in a less-than-impressive performance from the team.  Mumbai managed to reach 150 runs with the help of a quickfire inning by Kieron Pollard at the end, who scored 35 runs off 22 balls.

When defending, Mumbai Indians’ bowlers were costly at first against Hyderabad’s dynamic pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow who were blasting out all guns. When Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers departed, Mumbai Indians made an incredible comeback, bowling SRH out for 137 runs and sealing the match by 13 runs.

Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar each took three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya each took one. Among the excellent performances were two crucial run-outs from senior all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Mumbai Indians need to fix their middle-order woes as soon as possible and Rohit needs to convert his starts into big scores. They may bring in Jayant Yadav in place of Adam Milne to tackle Shikhar Dhawan at the top.
