With the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) looming, all eyes are on the auction for the same which will be held on February 18 in Chennai. The final shortlist of 292 players has been released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and each player has set a base price for himself as well. The auction will be the first and crucial step towards winning the IPL trophy for each franchise.

Mumbai Indians (MI) won the coveted title last year for a record 5th time and will back themselves to win it again this year as their side looks settled as ever. Further, the tournament is reportedly set to take place in stadiums in and around Mumbai keeping in mind the bio-bubble restrictions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The other teams will hence, look to stop MI more than any team else.

Meanwhile, with the final shortlist being released, Rs. 2 crores is the maximum base price which has been set by a few players like Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh while some others have gone for Rs. 1 crore.

The full list of players who have set Rs. 1 crore as their base price includes both players who have been released by their former franchises in IPL 2020 and also players who have never played before in the IPL. The likes of Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Wade could attract a lot of interest due to their excellent performances for the Australian national team and the Big Bash League.

There are only two Indian players in the list. They are Indian Test team stars Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav. There are also other Australian bowlers like Jason Behrendorff and Billy Stanlake, West Indies’ Evin Lewis and Sheldon Cottrell and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman.
