IPL 2021: “He shouldn’t bat below No. 5” – Gautam Gambhir on MS Dhoni batting at No. 7 for CSK

MS Dhoni

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said that MS Dhoni can’t be batting at as low as No.7 and expect to lead Chennai Super Kings in an efficient manner. There has been a lot of noise surrounding how low Dhoni bats down the order for CSK and now Gambhir has had his say on the issue.

Dhoni batted at No.7 in CSK’s opening match against the Delhi Capitals and ended up getting out for a duck off the bowling of young Avesh Khan. In his two-ball stay, it was evident that Dhoni looked out of sorts. When CSK play Punjab Kings (PBKS) today, Dhoni would want to contribute more with the bat.

“You can’t be leading, when you’re batting at No.7” – Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir spoke about MS Dhoni’s batting position on the Star Sports Show Cricket Connected. “We keep mentioning this thing that a leader needs to lead from the front. You can’t be leading, when you’re batting at No.7,” Gambhir said

MS Dhoni should be batting higher, that’s what matters because ultimately people should start leading from the front. Yes, there are issues in their bowling line up. Plus, he is not the MS Dhoni, which he used to be probably four or five years back, where he could just come in and start taking on the bowlers from the word go. For me, I think he needs to bat at number four/ five. Nothing below that,” Gambhir added.

CSK’s next match is against KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings who won their first match against Rajasthan Royals.
