IPL 2021: RCB vs KKR – Match 10, How can Kolkata Knight Riders halt Royal Challengers Bangalore’s winning run today?

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a stunning implosion in their previous game against Mumbai Indians (MI) as they spectacularly lost a match from a position of great promise. After their win in the first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the loss came as a crushing blow to their confidence. They would however, want to put all that behind when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today.

RCB are on a roll at the moment, having won two out of two. Their first win came against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in a last-ball thriller. In the second match, they came up trumps against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with a superb defence of a low target that saw some clever captaincy decisions taken by Virat Kohli. RCB would want to notch up their third consecutive win today.

On that note, we take a look at how KKR can stop RCB’s winning run today.

KKR’s middle-order has failed to fire in each of the first two matches this season. It was only Dinesh Karthik who was excellent in the first match but even he couldn’t come good in the second. A lot of responsibility would thus be on the middle order to fire today and come good to turn things around for the side.

The likes of Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan have disappointed while Andre Russell has been too shaky with the bat. If the three dangerous overseas batters can produce the fireworks today, KKR would be in good stead to clinch victory against RCB.

A huge problem for RCB last season was that they were too slow while batting in the middle overs. To address that issue, they spent money on Glenn Maxwell and obtained him to use at No. 4 in the batting order. The position in the order has worked a treat so far for the Aussie all-rounder who has been enjoying his time at the middle.

His lively knocks have helped keep the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs and put pressure on the opposition bowlers. KKR must thus, find a way to stop him. The spinners could hold key and hence, it could be Shakib Al Hasan and Varun Chakravarthy who would be tasked with finding a way to dismiss Maxwell early. If they do that, it would be of huge help to KKR.
