IPL 2021: CSK vs RCB – Match 19, How can Chennai Super Kings stop Royal Challengers Bangalore’s winning run?
Chennai Super Kings
A blockbuster clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) beckons today as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both sides are flying high at the moment with the latter on top of the table having won each of their first four matches while the Men in Yellow are second with three wins from their first four.
RCB seem to be in stupendous form at the moment. They seem to have all bases covered. Their death bowling which was a problem in the last few seasons has improved a great deal this year. They have also solved their search for an explosive and reliable batsman other than Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in Glenn Maxwell. They thus, look unstoppable at the moment.
On that note, we take a look at how CSK can defeat RCB today.
IPL 2021: CSK vs RCB – Key for CSK #1: Deepak Chahar must deliver again
On batting paradises at the Wankhede Stadium, it is pacer Deepak Chahar who has stepped up for CSK with his excellent performances in the Powerplay in two of their three wins. He has picked up two four-wicket hauls already and 7 of those wickets have come in the Powerplay alone.
Picking up early wickets is crucial in such batsmen-friendly pitches and hence, Chahar would once again be key for the Men in Yellow. If he manages to dismiss the likes of Virat Kohli and the in-form Devdutt Padikkal early, the middle-order which is short of depth could get exposed.
IPL 2021: CSK vs RCB – Key for CSK #2: Keep following the same approach of quick cameos
CSK have been following a flawless approach to their batting at the Wankhede Stadium. Due to their excellent batting depth, each new batsman that walks in has attacked with intent and played quick cameos whenever needed. Instead of taking their eye in, the batting depth has allowed them to attack early.
This has become a hallmark of CSK’s batting in Mumbai and although it remains unclear as to whether they would follow the same approach in games in different venues that might not favour batsmen as much, they must follow the same intent in batting today against RCB in order to put pressure on their bowlers.
