IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Match 7, How can Delhi Capitals continue their good form with a win over Rajasthan Royals today?
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals (DC) got off to a good start in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium. Rajasthan Royals (RR) on the other hand played out a humdinger of a contest where they fell short by just four runs to Punjab Kings (PBKS) despite skipper Sanju Samson‘s stunning knock of 199 runs in just 63 balls.
RR would thus, want to bounce back from the agonizing defeat while DC would want to keep the momentum going. On paper, DC are the clearly stronger side and with RR set to miss Ben Stokes for the rest of the season, the former would go in as favourites. However, RR are more than capable of getting a win and hence, DC would be wary.
On that note, we take a look at how DC can defeat RR today.
IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Key for DC #1: Use spinners cleverly
The Wankhede Stadium has been a hunting ground for batsmen. Spinners have taken a pounding in the matches that have taken place so far with no single bowler able to exert his influence. Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra were taken for runs in DC’s first match against CSK. Although Ashwin picked up the crucial wicket of Moeen Ali, he looked far from his wily best on a pitch that just did not suit him.
The key for DC would thus, be to use them cleverly and not let the opposition accelerate in the middle overs. Using Ashwin in the Powerplay when the batsmen are getting their eye in, could be a good move. Using Marcus Stoinis if the spinners are taken for runs would also be the right move.
IPL 2021: RR vs DC – Key for DC #2: Openers must continue good form
Openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan looked unstoppable in the opening game as they found the boundaries and sixes almost at will. They would once again be relied upon to come good and take pressure off the middle order. A fiery start on a batting beauty like Wankhede would greatly help the side in posting a big score.
If Shaw and Dhawan get going like they did versus CSK, the RR bowlers would be in for a long night in trying to contain them from scoring runs.
