Delhi Capitals (DC) were touted to be one of the strongest contenders to make the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 before the tournament began. So far, the Rishabh Pant-led side has done justice to the same as they have won three matches out of their first four. Apart from a last-over thriller against Rajasthan Royals (RR), the side has looked assured and confident.
They will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) today who lost each of their first three matches of the season to find themselves rock-bottom in the table. However, a big win against Punjab Kings (PBKS) has seen them climb a few places to 6th before they dropped to 7th after yesterday’s RR vs KKR match. The Orange Army seem to have found form at the right time and could prove to be a hard nut to crack today.
On that note, we take a look at how DC can defeat SRH today.
IPL 2021: SRH vs DC – Key for DC #1: Expose the SRH middle order early
The biggest Achilles Heel for SRH this season and even seasons before that, has been their weak and unreliable middle-order. With no overseas nor experienced batters to come after No. 4, SRH have been found wanting in chases where they have completely collapsed or failed to get the runs neeed.
The key for DC would thus be to remove the top 3 of David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson early. If the Orange Army’s middle order can be exposed early by the DC bowlers, there could be the very real possibility of a collapse happening, especially on a bowler-friendly wicket like Chennai.
IPL 2021: SRH vs DC – Key for DC #2: Kagiso Rabada must deliver
Kagiso Rabada was the best bowler in the tournament last year as he ended up bagging the Purple Cap. After missing the first match due to his national team commitments and the period of quarantine, the South African pacer looked rusty in the following match against RR as he was taken apart by Chris Morris en route an RR win.
In subsequent matches as well, Rabada has been taken for runs and he has not been able to bring about the fear factor associated with him in the tournament. Today would be the perfect opportunity for him to prove his worth by stepping up and delivering against the Sunrisers.
