IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Match 13, How can Delhi Capitals break their losing streak against Mumbai Indians today?

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) would be desperate to break their losing streak against Mumbai Indians (MI) when the two sides go head-to-head in Chennai. MI defeated DC in all four matches that the two sides faced last season – including the first Qualifier and the final. Further, DC were on the losing side in the second match between these two sides in the 2019 season as well – totaling a losing streak of 5.

DC are in a good place at the moment, having won two matches out of three – with the one loss being a last-over thriller as well. Shikhar Dhawan has looked in imperious touch and would want to carry on. However, notching up a win against MI won’t be easy by any means. The side are an upbeat bunch at the moment having defended low totals in each of their last two matches.

On that note, we take a look at how DC can defeat MI today.

IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Key for DC #1: Kagiso Rabada must come good

Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada was the best bowler in the tournament last season. He picked up wickets at will and also kept things tight. However, he hasn’t the best of starts to his season. He was taken apart by his Proteas teammate Chris Morris in the match against RR before he received the same treatment from the likes of Mayank Agarwal in the match against PBKS as well.

DC would want the South African to fire if they are to keep the MI batting line-up at bay. If he picks up early wickets while keeping it tight and also does so at the death like he did last year, DC would have a good chance of defeating MI.

IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Key for DC #2: Shikhar Dhawan must continue his good form

Shikhar Dhawan is the current Orange Cap holder and he has performed in two of the three matches that DC have played. Further, in the two matches that he has performed, DC have ended up on the winning side. Such has been the southpaw’s importance in the side that if he doesn’t fire, DC tend to struggle.

In the slow conditions of Chennai, it is a must to get a good start in the Powerplay as the pitch gets difficult to bat on with time, especially in the second innings. With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult lined up for the death overs, Shikhar Dhawan will hold key for DC in the Powerplay to put pressure on MI.
