IPL 2021: MI vs CSK, Match 27 – How can Mumbai Indians stop Chennai Super Kings’ winning run today?
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a satisfactory start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) season although they would have wanted much more. With 3 wins in 6 matches, the Rohit Sharma-led side still look like they would make it to the playoffs, but the fear factor associated with the side seems to have decreased largely due to the below-par batting displays they have put up so far this season.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the other hand, are on a roll and they could not have asked for a better start. After a loss in the opening match against Delhi Capitals (DC), the MS Dhoni-led side have gone on a five-match winning run that has seen them dispatch oppositions with tremendous ease. With CSK looking unstoppable, it would take some effort from MI to get past their arch-rivals.
We take a look at how MI can defeat CSK today.
IPL 2021: MI vs CSK – Key for MI #1: Captain’s knock needed
MI skipper Rohit Sharma has had a good season with the bat so far as he has notched up 215 runs in just 6 matches. Even on difficult pitches to bat on, the captain has come up with the goods with his stupendous stroke-play. Once again, MI would want him to deliver when it matters most in the biggest league match of the season in terms of the rivalry.
If Rohit provides a flying start to MI’s innings along with Quinton de Kock who has also found form now, the middle-order would be held in good stead to accelerate and provide a strong finish.
IPL 2021: MI vs CSK – Key for MI #2: Restrict CSK in the middle overs
Chennai Super Kings have made a name for themselves this season as a side that keeps on attacking, irrespective of which over they are in. This intent was something which was lacking in the Men in Yellow last year and this year, they seem to have rectified it by employing a deep batting line-up that gives all batsmen the license to explode.
The key for MI would thus be to choke them in the middle overs to add to the pressure. Saving an extra over for the likes of Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah for the middle overs could work wonders if they are able to build the pressure and also pick wickets.
