IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Match 13, How can Mumbai Indians defeat Delhi Capitals today?
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI) suffered a loss in their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as is tradition before bouncing back in vintage style to notch up two consecutive wins. They will now be an upbeat bunch as they are in a position of strength and are in great form as well. With two superb defenses of low totals after almost doing so in the first match as well, MI will fancy their chances today as well.
They will face Delhi Capitals (DC) who are in good touch themselves as well. After winning the first match and losing the second, DC clinched victory in the third and are now level on points with MI. Despite DC’s good form, MI will be favourites due to the history between the sides. The former are on a five-match losing streak against the defending champions and MI would want to defeat them again.
On that note, we take a look at how MI can defeat DC today.
IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Key for MI #1: Out of form batsmen must come good
MI have won two of their three matches, but both matches were won because of their bowlers. Batting first, the side could only score moderate totals in both matches (all three matches for that matter). It was the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar who delivered when it mattered.
None of the batsmen have been able to get going this season. The likes of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have not had one good outing. Quinton de Kock has looked rusty as well. Today’s match would be the perfect opportunity for the out of form batters to come good and pile the pressure on the DC bowlers.
IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Key for MI #2: Stop Shikhar Dhawan early
Shikhar Dhawan has been in excellent form for DC in the tournament so far. The opening batsman has helped ace two stiff chases with ease in each of DC’s two wins. He would once again hold the key for DC in this encounter. If Dhawan fails to fire, the DC middle order would have their task cut out.
For MI, it would thus be of paramount importance to get Dhawan’s wicket early. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah will hold key, as will Adam Milne (or whichever third pacer MI choose for the match) in being tasked with sending back the in-form Dhawan. If Dhawan gets out cheaply, MI would be firm favourites to win.
